Dance World is the longest operating dance studio in the Watertown area. The studio is open 6 days a week and has been home to many special area dance groups such as the Northern Ballet Company, Homeschool program, Baton Twirling & Hula dance programs and the Showstoppers Competition Team.
Classes are offered in Tap, Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz, Pointe, Lyrical, Musical Theater, Modern, Tumbling, Hip-Hop, Clogging, Baton Twirling, Hula, Ballroom and Cheerleading for children and adults ages 2 and up at the beginning, intermediate and advanced level.
Toddlers who are 2 years old or almost 2 years old are invited to take our Creative Movement class, which provides learning opportunities in balance, coordination, rhythm, counting, singing and social skills such as being the leader, taking turns, sharing and just having fun with other children their own age.
Our Pre-School program offers all of the same except at a little more advanced level.
Technique classes are offered for our more advanced dancers as well as our competition team.
All types of dance are available in private or semi-private classes but time slots are limited. Fees for these half hour or 45 minute sessions are at the discretion of each individual instructor.
OPENINGS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS! Schedules and info ARE POSTED ON THE CLASS SCHEDULE PAGE! Interested? Just call us at 315-785-0438 to register AND stop by the class of your choice for your FREE trial class!
WEDDING-PREP/BALLROOM PRIVATE CLASSES available during the summer!
Basic ballroom lessons through choreography of your chosen first dance.
Bridal Party dance choreography offered as well!
Make your special day memorable and fun!
My hope for the children who dance at Dance World is that they prosper in self-esteem, have fun, feel good about what they are doing, and know that doing their best is acceptable.
The art of dance is not academic; not all children will be on the right foot all the time. Not all will have great rhythm and timing, and some may never be able to do that perfect split or pirouette.
I hope that your child's experience will be rewarding and educational, and that the memories and friends they make will be a comfort to them as they grow in years.
COVID-19 Studio Procedures
Dear Dance World families:
We are so excited to have finally made it to Phase Four in the Governor’s plan which allows the arts and education to open. We are 100 percent in support of his recommendations to ensure impeccable cleanliness, social distancing and the protection of those that are most vulnerable in our community. We are also deeply grateful for his recognition that exercise is critical to health and well-being. I am excited to share what this means for your dancer!
What is the safety protocol?
All employees will monitor their temperature and wash their hands upon entering the studio. If they feel ill, they will be asked to stay home. Employees will wear masks in common areas. All employees will practice social distancing while at the studio. Following each class, teachers will sanitize the room (including door handles, the barre, etc.), wash their hands and open the door for the next class to enter. Classes will be 20-45 minutes long to allow for safe entering/exiting and sanitization. Focus for class will be on warm up, technique and recital practice.
Dancers will wait in your car outside the studio until the lobby door on St. Mary’s street is opened by your teacher. The front door on Mill St. is for emergency use only and not to be used. You will practice social distancing when entering the building by staying 6 feet apart. Dancers should be supervised by a parent or guardian until they enter the studio. Only dancers ages 9 and under are allowed one adult (no siblings or extra persons) wearing a face mask to accompany them. Upon entering, dancers will remove street shoes, put on dance shoes, sanitize their hands, and go directly to class. There is a strict no food or drink (other than water) policy. Dancers should bring their own water bottle (water cooler will be closed). Any water bottles left at the studio will be thrown away at the end of the night for sanitary reasons. Please send your dancer to class in the appropriate dance attire. Dancers will have labeled spots along the wall for their belongings that are 6 feet apart. They must stay on their assigned spot while in class (6 ft or more from other dancers) at all times. Dancers will be dismissed while maintaining social distancing. Please pick up your dancer promptly so that we can prepare for the next class. There is no loitering in the lobby.
What about masks?
Our instructors will not be required or recommended to wear masks while dancing in the studio. It is very difficult to breathe while exercising with a face covering. We are also aware of health issues that can occur due to rebreathing CO2 instead of fresh air while exercising. We do not recommend that dancers wear masks in the studio for the same reason. Children are also more likely to play with and move their masks as they become uncomfortable making them more susceptible to germs. However, masks are required anywhere else in the building such as when entering and exiting, common areas, bathrooms and hallways.
But what if my dancer isn’t ready?
If for any reason you are not comfortable or confident in these safety measures, please keep your child home and ask about the chance to continue doing class online. We may be able to offer both options to meet everyone’s needs. If any of the following applies to you, you may want to consider staying home for now: If a dancer or family member feels ill; if anyone has a family member who is immunocompromised; if anyone is living or interacting with elderly people on a regular basis; or if you just do not feel comfortable yet.
We will continue to thoroughly sanitize the premises, as we have throughout the closure, so that it will be ready to reopen. At this time, we are not in a position to offer tumbling or acro this summer. More information to come in the fall. We cannot wait to see everyone again and look forward to safely continuing to prepare for this year's (late) recital. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
